Stock market opened sharply on Tuesday. The Bombay Stock Exchange's 30-share Sensex rose 173.25 points to open at 37,755.16, while the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange gained 29.75 points to trade at 11,139.40. However, the market fell shortly after and within half an hour, the Sensex fell to over 200 points. There is a sharp jump in the shares of Reliance Industries Limited.
At around 9:50 am, the Sensex was trading 221.16 points down at 37,360.75 while the Nifty was down 54.15 points at 11,055.50. During this period, Reliance shares were up 8.71 percent on the Sensex. Apart from ONGC, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Asian Paint, Yes Bank, Axis Bank, other stocks were in the red mark.
Indiabulls Housing Finance, Reliance, BPCL, G Ltd, GAIL were the top gainers on the Nifty while NTPC, Bharti Airtel, Britannia, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti were the top losers.
The country's major stock markets were closed on Monday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid). Earlier on Friday, there was regular trading in the stock market. The Sensex had gained 254.55 points to close at 37,581.91 on Friday. The Nifty too was up 77.20 points at 11,109.65.
