When we talk of the Covid-19 pandemic, the biggest challenge is the suddenness with which, it hit all of us. So, one would expect that as a healthcare organization and hospital, we are prepared to handle emergencies, round the clock- 24x7. But one is not prepared to handle something like a pandemic.
The suddenness with which it hit all of us was really a big challenge. What complicated the matter more was that this was entirely a new virus, something that was never been seen before in the world. So there was no SOP for this- in a hospital there are SOPs for every single process that there is, but one could not have SOP for handling something like a Covid-19 virus.
So we had new information coming in from across the world on a continuous basis and in real-time we had to adapt and really modify those processes into our daily processes. I think that was a big challenge.
