NRCB develops tech to convert extra ripe bananas to powder

The ICAR-national research centre for banana (NRCB), Trichy, has developed a new drying technology, which could be an alternative to the spray and freeze drying technique for banana pulp to produce banana powder.




This could be a feasible solution for utilization of over ripe and market reject bananas for producing cost-efficient banana powder. Food management is a critical issue for international food safety and Covid-19 outbreak leading to shortages and price hikes had caused consumers to adopt for a ‘Less but better’ eating practices. To meet this future global demand, ICAR-NRCB, Trichy has developed new drying technology, Dr S Uma, director of NRCB, Trichy said.
