Two-time world champion India would like to make its title for the record seventh time in the Asia Cup cricket tournament, which starts in Dubai from Saturday. India has so far won the Asia Cup title six times. These include five titles in the ODI format and once the titles won in the T-20 format. India has played 48 matches in the history of Asia Cup so far, from which it has won 31 and lost 16 while no result has been achieved.
In the first edition of the Asia Cup played in Sharjah in UAE in April 1984, India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets and won the title. After that, in 1988 Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets and then won the title for the second time.
The Indian team finished the title hat-trick in the Asia Cup in 1990/91 when they defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets. After that, he won the title for the third time and for the fourth time in a row, defeating Sri Lanka in Sharjah by eight wickets in 1995.
After winning the title in 1995, India had to wait 15 years longer for their next title. Although he had missed the title twice in the middle of these 15 years and had to face defeat in the final by Sri Lanka.
After losing the titles twice, India defeated hosts Sri Lanka by 81 runs in 2010, winning the record for the fifth time to become Asia's champion. But after that he failed to reach the final in 2012 and 2014.
In the tournament for the first time in 2016 in the T20 format, it defeated host Bangladesh and won the title. Apart from India, Pakistan won twice (2000 and 2012) Asia Cup title. He has played a total of 44 total matches, out of which 26 have won and 17 are lost while no one has achieved the result.
Sri Lanka has won the title in five times (1986, 1997, 2004, 2008 and 2014). He has played 52 matches in the Asia Cup so far, in which 35 are won and 17 are lost. Bangladesh has been runners-up twice in 2012 (2012, 2016). Bangladesh played 42 matches in which seven have won and 35 lost.
Asia Cup will be played from September 15 to 28, in which India is placed in Group A along with Pakistan and Hong Kong. Apart from this, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are included in Group-B. The top two teams from each group will confirm their position in the Super Four.
The Indian team, who came to take part in the tournament without regular captain Virat Kohli, has to play with his first qualifier qualifier Hong Kong. The Indian team, captained by Rohit Sharma, will then fight against Pakistan.
