India Appeals To UNSC For Joint Action On D-Company

Delhi,11,July,2019

India, on the lines of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), has an appeal to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to conduct mass action against Dawood Ibrahim and his network internationally. India says that this network promotes terror in South Asia through gold smuggling and counterfeit currency.

India's permanent representative in the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin said, "We have seen Dawood Ibrahim's criminal syndicate turning into a terrorist network, which is known as D-Company. D-Company's illegal economic activities may be known very little outside of our area, but for us smuggling of drugs and weapons with gold smuggling, counterfeit currency and a safe haven is a real and current threat. The special thing is that the resident refuses to accept their presence. ' They said this during a discussion on Tuesday in the Security Council on "The threat of international peace and security: the link between international terrorism and organized crime".

Akbaruddin suggested, "The success of the collective action against ISIL is a sign of the fact that focusing on any issue of the Council can result in finding and meeting. If you show similar interest in dealing with the threats created by banned individuals such as Dawood Ibrahim and his D-Company and banned outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-e-Taiba, it would be beneficial for everyone.

Masjid Azhar, the leader of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, has been declared a Global Terrorist under the 1267 Prohibition Committee. Pointing to the recent steps taken by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to curb funding to militant organizations, Akbaruddin said, "We believe that global organizations to prevent funding of terror organizations and money laundering FATF is playing an important role in determining the standard. The United Nations should increase cooperation with such organizations.

Akbaruddin said that the terror organizations are increasingly involved in criminal activities like natural resources trade and human trafficking to raise funds. In the same way, criminal group is also providing handicap to the terrorists, providing facilities such as forgery, illegal means to provide funding, smuggling of weapons, trafficking of drugs and transmitting terrorists across the border.

He said, 'Both terrorism and organized crime are harmful to society equally. They are making a living for themselves from the same moorland. They sometimes work differently and sometimes cooperate with each other. In many cases they are found in each other. ' He said, 'As the whole world is getting more and more connected to each other, these networks are increasingly becoming one another.'
