While there is serious discussion around pollution in Delhi, on the one hand , Parliament is seen in favor of farmers other than pollution. MPs say that farmers are being humiliated in the case of burning stubble. The MPs have demanded financial assistance from the government to prevent farmers from burning stubble. Let us tell you that the Supreme Court has also reprimanded the government of Punjab and Haryana for burning stubble.
MPs from Punjab say that the state does not have incentive to stop farmers from burning stubble. A lot of campaigns are going on on social media about pollution and the problems caused by people in Delhi-NCR are not hidden from anyone. Some members say that the government should also take measures like China to reduce pollution. China had taken drastic measures to reduce pollution in the capital Beijing.
At the time when this was being discussed in the House, the presence of MPs was very less, even some MPs from Delhi were not present there. However, Gautam Gambhir was present at the meeting of the Parliamentary Panel on pollution issues in the last few days, which was criticized for not being present.
Some BJP MPs blamed CM Arvind Kejriwal for the pollution in Delhi. BJP's Pravesh Singh accused Kejriwal that this situation has happened due to poor transport and industrial policy.
During the debate, Congress MP Manish Tiwari said that the emission of vehicles is the largest contributor to pollution by 41 percent. Burning of straw is one of several reasons. He said that incidents of stubble burning in Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh are serious, but the plight of farmers cannot be ignored. He said that it is really unfortunate that Delhi gets completely polluted these days and people have to breathe in the toxic air.
BJD MP Pinaki Mishra said that the straw can be used in many other industries, which will also reduce pollution. He said that the government should seriously consider this.
