Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Thavarchand Gehlot will be the leader of the house in the Rajya Sabha . Gehlot will replace former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley . Jaitley urged PM Narendra Modi not to be included in the cabinet for health reasons. Gehlot PM is the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment during the second term of Narendra Modi.
Gehlot is the leading Dalit leader of BJP. In the first term of PM Modi in 2014, Gehlot received the responsibility of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Gahlot was an MP from Shajapur Lok Sabha constituency from 1996 to 2009. Thawar Chand Gehlot was elected as Rajya Sabha member in 2012. In 2018, Gehlot was again elected to the Rajya Sabha. As a Rajya Sabha member, his tenure ends in 2024.
