The Delhi government has recommended the mercy petition of a convict in the 2012 Nirbhaya rape and murder case be dismissed. Sources gave this information on Sunday. He said that Delhi Home Minister Satyendra Jain has sent the file to Lt. Governor Anil Baijal with recommendations of the Arvind Kejriwal government in this matter.
The recommendation states, "The applicant of the mercy petition has committed a very serious offense, very brutally. To prevent such atrocities, it is necessary that exemplary punishment in this case be given. There is no basis for mercy petition, it is recommended to dismiss it.
It is noteworthy that only one of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya case, Vinay Sharma, has filed a mercy petition. The Tihar Jail has told the court that one of the four convicts in the case has submitted a mercy petition to the President on 4 November, which has been sent to the government.
