Deepak Khajuria was sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday for kidnapping and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua of Jammu. After the murder, Deepak had told his friend Vikramjit Singh, "We have to teach the people of Bakarwal (Banjara)."
The statement of Singh representing the prosecution as a witness and the confession of the lamp and other accused in this case played an important role in proving the motive of this cruel crime.
In the statement given to a Judicial Magistrate and later District and Sessions Judge Tejwinder Singh, the witness had said that Deepak had admitted that he and a minor (co-accused) had "murdered the girl".
Deepak and Sanjay Ram wanted to teach the Bakurkwala because they and other local people had poor relations with Bakarwal community.
Singh and Deepak were partying for a new year and they had come to Koota Bar village to buy 'Pokoda', then Deepak purchased a medicine from a medical store. Singh said in his testimony that Deepak had told him that medicine is a tranquilizer.
Singh asked Deepak to celebrate the lohri festival next day on January 12, 2018. On this Deepak had told that a search operation was going on for the search of a missing girl from Bakharwal community.
In the testimony, Singh told that he had advised Deepak to hand over the girl to the Bakarwal community.
The next day, on January 13, Singh asked Deepak about the girl in the telephone conversation. On this Deepak had said that he will talk to Sanjee Ram and decide whether to leave the girl or not.
According to Singh's testimony, 'Deepak was upset. On being asked, she said that she has murdered the girl in association with the minor.
Deepak then warned Singh not to inform this information to anyone.
In order to strengthen the case of prosecution against Sanjee Ram and two other accused, the court resorted to the Analysis Report of the 108 pages of Experts. This report included information about cell tower tower locations.
Sanji Ram had revealed in his cross-examination that the Bakkarwal community was wasting the crops of the local people coming down the hill. They were occupying the land, which local people had opposed.
The child's stepfather also told the court that she was the only Muslim living in that area and because of this the other residents wanted that she should leave from there.
