New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate in the Punjab National Bank fraud case has arrested Deepak Kulkarni, an associate of the fugitive jewelery businessman Mehul Choksi, as under investigation. This action is linked to a case of money laundering under investigation.
Deepak Kulkarni has been arrested from Kolkata airport from Hong Kong. According to the officials, Deepak will be presented before the court on Tuesday and the Enforcement Directorate will seek his transit remand for taking him to Mumbai. The related case is registered in Mumbai only.
Earlier on Thursday, the ED had told that in the case of alleged US $ 2 billion in fraud in Punjab National Bank, he has invested Rs 255 crore of diamond trader, Nirav Modi, in the property of Hong Kong. According to the news, he has issued an order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to attach these properties.
ED said that these precious things were sent to Neerav Modi's companies located in Dubai by 26 ships from Hong Kong to their companies, which they have control over. Diamonds and ornaments were kept in a logistics company in Hong Kong. Explain that diamond trader Neerav Modi and his uncle Mahul Choksi are accused of looting more than Rs. 12 thousand crores on Punjab National Bank. Neerav Modi, Mehul Choksi and his close relatives are absconding from the country from January 2018.
