Indian top-order batsman Jemima Rodrigues is looking to get the best of the T20 World Cup starting here on 21 February and feels that the opening match against Australia will be one of the most important matches of her career. Both teams will play in the World Cup on Wednesday after playing the final of the tri-series T20 in which Australia won by 11 runs.
Both teams won one each in their round robin stage matches and India defeated Australia in the group stage in the last leg of the World Cup held in the West Indies.
Rodrigues said in ICC release, 'I think it will be one of the most important matches in my career. It would be important for me to play in the first match against Australia and that too in the World Cup. There is nothing more exciting than the Indian team confronting him in Australia, so we will be very excited about this match.
Some of the best batsmen are present in both the teams. While the Indian team has Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, Australia has players like Elise Parry, Meg Lanning and Alyssa Healy who were in excellent form last year. Australian fast bowler Megan Scutt praised Indian opener Mandhana, who was the top scorer in the tri-series scoring 216 runs at an average of 43.20.
Scutt said, 'Smriti is in fantastic form. He took my balls many times across the boundary in international matches and at WBBL level. She is a left-handed batsman and can hit all around the field. Scutt would also like to be cautious of Indian captain Harmanpreet, who scored an unbeaten 171-run knock in the ICC Women's World Cup 2017 semi-final against Australia.
He said, 'India has players like Harmanpreet Kaur who became very famous here with a big innings in the World Cup. I think after that she has proved that she can do the same in other matches.
