Patiala house court in capital convicted two accused in a case of murder in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, after the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The pronouncements will be announced on Thursday. Additional Sessions Judge Ajay Pandey, Naresh Sahravat and Yashpal Singh have been convicted in the murder case of Hardev Singh and Avtar Singh living in Mahipalpur area of South Delhi.
This case was registered on the complaint of deceased Hardev Singh's brother Santosh Singh. The Delhi Police had closed the case in 1994 due to lack of evidence, but the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the riots again investigated the matter and carried it to its conclusion.
The court has considered both of them guilty of murder under the Indian Penal Code (302), attempt to murder (307) Dacoity (395) and 324, 452 and 436 in other sections. After being convicted by the court, the two were taken into police custody. The pronouncement of the two will be announced on Thursday. In view of these streams, the culprits can get death penalty or life imprisonment.
