West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Dilip Ghosh on Sunday said that his party had never made a promise of separate state of Gorkhaland . BJP won the Darjeeling seat in the Lok Sabha elections. Ghosh said that similar to Assam, the National Civil Registration (NRC) will also be implemented in West Bengal soon.
After meeting the workers in Jalpaiguri district, he said, "We want progress of Gorkha people. We sympathize with the demands of the State of Gorkhaland but have never promised a different state. ' Responding to the statement of the state BJP chief, Darjeeling MLA and Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) spokesperson Neeraj Zimba said, "Dilip Ghosh has his political obligation but apart from this our demand for Gorkhaland state will not stop."
They said, 'We want a permanent political solution to the issue.' Bimal Gurung, absconding leader of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), had claimed in an interview in April this year before the Lok Sabha elections that BJP had promised to look into the demand of Gorkhaland.
