The Supreme Court on Friday said it will hear the petition challenging the Bombay High Court's April 2017 order granting bail to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur two weeks later. Thakur is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case. Thakur is currently a BJP MP, He was granted bail by the High Court on 25 April 2017, stating that there was "no prima facie case" against him in the case. On September 29, 2008, seven people were killed in a bomb blast in communally sensitive Malegaon in Nashik district of northern Maharashtra.
The petition filed by the father of one of the victims of the blast came for hearing before a bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar. The Supreme Court said that it would hear the case after two weeks. Petitioner Nisar Ahmed Haji Syed Bilal stated that Thakur is an influential woman and she can influence the witnesses in the case.
