Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Monday announced a grant of Rs 5-5 lakh for the reconstruction work to the people who lost their homes due to floods and landslides in the state. The Chief Minister announced a grant of one lakh rupees for the repair of damaged houses and Rs 5,000 per month for the people to stay in the rented houses till the house is ready. In a release issued by the Chief Minister's Office, Yeddyurappa was quoted as saying, "People who lost their homes due to floods will be given assistance of Rs.1 lakh for the repair work". Announced this during the tour.
Yeddyurappa said, "5-5 lakh rupees will be given to those who have completely lost their house so that they can get the construction work done and they will be given 10,000 rupees as immediate help. Assistance of Rs 5,000 per month will be given to people to live in a rented house and plots will be given to those who lose their land in flood.
Due to floods and rains, 2,694 villages in 86 taluks of 17 districts in Karnataka have been affected. According to the information received by the state government, 42 people have died in the state so far while 12 people are missing.
