The Centre will constitute a statutory body this week which will have powers to enforce a series of anti-pollution measures to improve air quality in the National Capital Region. An ordinance will be promulgated to form the authority.
The statutory body will have officials from the environment ministry, Central Pollution Control Board, representatives of NCR states, scientists and anti-pollution and legal experts. The ordinance is likely to have provisions to allow the anti-pollution body’s decision to be challenged only in the National Green Tribunal, as per discussions concerned ministries held with the Prime Minister’s Office last week.
