iPhone 12 series will not feature 120Hz refresh rate: Kuo

Tuesday, 15 September 2020

There have been a few reports suggesting Apple will indeed not go with the 120Hz refresh rate for its upcoming iPhones. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo adds to that speculation saying this feature will debut on the 2021 iPhones.

According to Kuo’s latest research notes (via MacRumors), the new iPhone 12 series will not have the 120Hz refresh rate as it will affect the battery life of the iPhones. A higher refresh rate does reduce battery life on smartphones, and the new iPhones are not prepared to handle the drop. To fix that, Apple will use LTPO display technology that consumes lower power, and with this it will introduce 120Hz refresh rate on the 2021 iPhone models.

With Kuo’s input, it’s very likely that there will be no 120Hz refresh rate on the iPhone 12 series. 120Hz refresh rate has been one key feature that phones like the Galaxy S20 and Note 20, and the Asus ROG Phone 3 boast of as it offers the best display experience. Apple is known to not hurry when it comes to such features so it’s not really a surprise that 120Hz is not happening this year.
