Bihar, which returns to national cricket after 18 years, has got into controversy with the introduction. In fact, the state association has selected the Under-23 team selector for the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the team. There are many allegations of conflict of interest over the senior team led by spinner Pragyan Ojha, running out of the Indian team, but the selection of Ashish Sinha has drawn the attention of everyone.
MLA's son is Ashish Sinha
28-year-old Ashish is the son of Patna Central legislator Arun Kumar Sinha and he played a Ranji match against Jharkhand in Rajasthan in 2010, which included 16 and 12 runs. But according to the documents that the PTI has, Ashish was appointed as a selector for the under-23 state team trials in June. These trials were organized by the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA).
In fact, on June 8 this year, he played the role of under-23 regional selector for Katihar, Araria, Bhagalpur, Kishanganj, Purnia, Banka and Jamui districts. When Ashish was contacted, he admitted that he had played the role of Under-23 selector and now he is ready to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Ashish denies charges
Ashish said to PTI, yes, I was made a selector but now I have stepped down from this post. I was a selector for a brief time and no official letter was released for this. I had made the selector at BCA's request.
Ashish was asked that allegations were being made that he was selected in the senior team of the state due to his father's influence. He said, "Let me tell you that when I played for Jharkhand in Ranji Trophy, my father was also a legislator, so how does it matter. I am still active in club cricket. Bihar cricket has returned to domestic cricket and I want to play for the senior team. We should pride ourselves instead of making the players shamelessly that Bihar will again play in the Ranji Trophy.
Bihar Cricket Association president Gopal Bohra also defended the selection of Ashish. Bohra said, this was a temporary selection committee and Ashish was his share. He is a good cricketer. Apart from this, when we are returning after 18 years, we need some experienced players besides captain Pragyan Ojha. Ashish is an experienced player and has played Ranji Trophy (a match). He was a senior player and so he was chosen.
He said, the allegations of being the son of the politician are baseless. We know that there are thousands of claimants to make space in all age groups and senior teams but only 15 can play. There can be many unnecessary charges in this way.
