UK-born writer Atish Taseer 's card of Overseas Citizen of India has been withdrawn. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday, it was told that he had hidden his father being of Pakistani origin, due to which his card has been canceled. Such reports had come before the Home Ministry's statement that Taseer's Overseas Citizen of India status may be lost due to writing an article criticizing PM Narendra Modi in Time magazine.
However, the ministry made it clear in its statement that the decision has nothing to do with the article published in Time magazine of Atish Taseer. In May this year, Taseer wrote an article 'Dividers in Chief' criticizing Modi in America's Time magazine. Later, the magazine also published a separate article describing PM Modi as 'Unifier'.
