Indian badminton stars Parupalli Kashyap and B Sai Praneeth both crashed out of the second round of the Men's Open at the China Open on Thursday.
Praneeth challenged for an hour and 24 minutes against fourth seeded Anders Antonsen of Denmark but the 11th-ranked Indian lost 20-22, 22-20, 21-16. Earlier, Kashyap lost to Denmark's Viktor Axelsen in straight games.
Kashyap, ranked 25th in the world rankings, was beaten by seventh seed Excelsen 21-13, 21-19 in just 43 minutes. This year Kashyap has lost to Excelsen for the second time. He was also defeated by the same opponent at the India Open in March. Former Commonwealth Games champion Kashyap reached the semi-finals of India Open and Korea Open.
The journey of the mixed doubles duo of Satwisairaj Rankereddy and Ashwini Ponnappa also ended. The unseeded Indian pair lost to the fifth seeded pair of Seo Seung Jae of South Korea and Chae Yoojung 21-23, 16-21.
